This yearlong fellowship is for a journalist living in and reporting on a rural community in Northern California, Oregon, Washington or Alaska. $25,000 stipend plus expenses. Journalists who identify as Black, Indigenous and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply by the Dec 15, 2019 deadline.

The Center for Health Journalism at the USC Annenberg School of Journalism is offering Impact Fund grants of $2,000-$10,000 for groundbreaking reporting on the health of underserved communities in California, including an exploration of environmental conditions where people live and work. The Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources invites journalists on an expenses-paid learning expedition to Alaska, Aug 31-Sep 7, 2019, to explore topics including mining in the Bristol Bay watershed; fisheries management; Indigenous sovereignty and resources management; climate change and its impacts on the region; land use issues; and more. Twice yearly, the International Women’s Media Foundation offers grants supporting journalism produced by and about women. The grants, averaging $5,000 USD, are open to professional journalists with three or more years' experience. Next deadline is April 21, 2019.

The Maria Moors Cabot Prizes, founded in 1938, honor reporting on Latin America & the Caribbean, especially that which impacts society, and demonstrates commitment to important stories over the course of a long and distinguished career. $5,000 honorarium. Nomination deadline is Mar 16, 2024.
