“A new case of New World Screwworm was confirmed on Tuesday in a calf in La Salle County, Texas, bringing the total cases of NWS in the United States to six.
The confirmation comes from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
On Monday, federal officials had confirmed three additional cases of New World screwworm, including two in Texas, bringing the state's total to five confirmed detections in less than a week.
The other recent Texas cases involve a calf in La Salle County, about 90 miles southwest of San Antonio and roughly 50 miles from the Mexican border, and a goat in Gillespie County in the Texas Hill Country, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.”
