Journalists and scientists: Apply by April 20th for an expenses-paid fellowship to participate in this June 9, 2012 workshop in Cleveland, OH, co-sponsored by SEJ and the Knight Center for Environmental Journalism at Michigan State University. Hear about the latest in Great Lakes climate research, develop working relationships with colleagues and counterparts, and take a seat at the forefront of envisioning a new model of climate change communication.

The Society of Environmental Journalists and the Environmental Law Institute will co-host a panel  — open to the public and press — at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., moderated by the AP's Dina Cappiello. Experts with broad policy experience will discuss their answers to two key questions: "What should the presidential candidates discuss concerning the important issues of environment, energy, and natural resources facing the people of the United States?" and "What questions should be asked of candidates in the presidential debates that will help us learn how they will confront these issues?"

The SEJ and the Canadian Science Writers' Association are having a pub night in Toronto at 7:30 p.m. on Nov 26th. Join us for a pint and to chat about science and environmental issues from a journalistic point of view. SEJ member Stephen Leahy will talk about his new book, "Your Water Footprint: The Shocking Facts About How Much Water We Use To Make Everyday Products."

SEJ and the Professional Writers’ Association of Canada present a panel at the University of Toronto, moderated by freelance journalist Saul Chernos. Experienced journalists from both the reporting and the editing sides of the business will discuss strategies the country’s top environmentally-minded writers are using to tell and sell their stories.

In addition to our regular pub night, SEJ members in the Toronto area are hosting a get-together with Tim Flannery, author of The Weather Makers and his new book Here On Earth: A Natural History of the Planet. All journalists with an interest in the environment beat are welcome to join us for Sunday afternoon pints in the upstairs bar of the Harbord House Pub in Toronto from 3-5 p.m. Event is free, but space is limited so RSVP to SEJpubnight@saunderseditor.com

Toronto-area journalists are invited to join SEJ members at our monthly pub night on Tuesday, March 1. Our guest this month will be Ravenna Alnuaimy-Barker, executive director of Sustain Ontario. Given that food security has been in the news so much of late, it seems a good time to sit down and discuss Ontario agriculture and food policy. Where better to do that than at the pub?
