Sacramento’s Capital Public Radio, in partnership with UC Davis, is hosting SEJ’s 2016 annual conference and we’re reaching out to our Northern California members to help us start shaping the agenda. Please join us 3:00-5:00 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015, in Sacramento, for a conversation with regional leaders about the most pressing environmental issues of the day.

For the third year in a row, the Society of Environmental Journalists will hold a public discussion at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington, DC. The event will run from 3:00-5:00 p.m., followed by a reception. SEJ Board President Jeff Burnside will introduce leading reporters and editors, who will offer their predictions on the critical energy and environmental stories that will shape 2015. The event will also be webcast live at www.wilsoncenter.org

Food issues and sustainability are under the spotlight at a free regional journalist meet-up in in Saratoga Springs, NY on November 10. A field trip to an area farm (homemade lunch included) will show innovations in sustainable agriculture, while a panel discussion showcases Saratoga’s grassroots actions for creating a more sustainable city-scape. The day will conclude with a panel that will give you the tools you need to move your GMO coverage from reporting on superficial disagreements to a deeper examination of the benefits and threats implicit in this technology.

Join us at The Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla on Nov 3, 2014, for an SEJ-co-sponsored comprehensive day of learning how to pitch, investigate and craft compelling science-based stories in a competitive media landscape to accurately inform the public while keeping them engaged. SEJ members and students receive a discount. Register by Nov 2nd.

Meet people and have fun on the rooftop of a comfortable and informal rooftop bar (with its own roof in case of rain). All welcome: SEJ members, science and environmental journalists, and those interested in meeting them, their partners and pals. This event is co-hosted by the esteemed DC Science Writers Association (DCSWA, pronounced "Duck-Schwa.") Eat, drink, be merry, meet colleagues and sources, conspire, circulate rumors, or complain about your editor.

Happy hour begins Wednesday, June 18, at 6:30 pm. Happy hour pricing runs until 9 pm.

If you're anything like me, Earth Day and its requisite flood of terrible pitch emails makes you want a drink. So we're holding another happy hour for SEJ members and friends in DC next Tuesday, April 22. We'll be upstairs on the deck (which has a tarp and heaters, in case the weather fails us). Five-dollar happy hour specials til the end!
