Senate Panel Releases Stopgap Bill With Disaster, Environment Funds

"The continuing resolution would extend environmental programs but leaves out some of the White House’s requests."

"Senate appropriators unveiled a bipartisan bill Sunday that would extend government funding beyond the Sept. 30 deadline, buying lawmakers more time to negotiate a long-term spending deal.

The stopgap includes extenders and authorizations for a number of environmental and infrastructure programs but leaves out special funding the White House had requested for national parks operations, wildfire management and disaster recovery in North Carolina.

The bipartisan deal underscores Senate appropriators’ desire to avoid a government shutdown this fall, even as they struggle to come to terms on the annual funding measures."
