May 11, 2011

Ocean issues are critical to the well-being of people in the US, but often missed in the crisis-driven mediasphere. Journalists can focus on some major ocean issues at the "Blue Vision" Summit May 20-23 in WashingtonDC.

It will cover everything from the Gulf of Mexico's struggle to recover from the BP oil spill to protection of over-exploited commercial fish stocks … to ocean acidification, marine protected areas, offshore energy, and coastal ecosystem restoration. There is likely to be special focus on how well President Obama's year-old National Ocean Policy is being implemented.

Celebs featured include author Carl Safina, NOAA chief Jane Lubchenco, ocean explorer Sylvia Earle, former Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, and "The Cove" director Louie Psihoyos.
