"While running the FDA, Makary led efforts to get companies to ditch food dyes and was popular among followers of the MAHA movement."
"Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Marty Makary is resigning, according to Politico. Kyle Diamantas, the agency’s top food official, will take over as acting commissioner.
Within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also lacks a director, and the role of surgeon general remains vacant.
The news comes after multiple news outlets reported President Donald Trump was considering firing Makary. Some reports had pointed to clashes with other officials within HHS, which the FDA is a part of. According to the New York Times, Makary’s issues with Trump came to a head over Makary’s objections to the approval of fruit-flavored e-cigarettes."
