CGEP Webinar: President Trump’s Executive Actions on AI
Join the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University SIPA for a panel discussion on the Trump administration's recent executive actions on artificial intelligence and their implications for energy use in the United States and around the world.
On July 23, 2025, President Trump released a United States "AI Action Plan" and signed several executive orders related to promoting and exporting the United States' AI technology stack, expanding the data center infrastructure required to power AI, and eliminating references to climate change in AI safety frameworks. The announcement includes several provisions designed to facilitate the building of data centers that power AI, including easing the permitting process and utilizing brownfield and superfund sites for data centers. The Trump administration's actions take place at a time of intense public and private sector interest in AI, geopolitical competition to develop AI technology, and an ongoing debate about how to address AI's enormous energy needs.
