Trump NPS Ordered To Restore History, Climate Info Removed From Parks

"A federal judge Friday gave the Trump administration three weeks to restore interpretative materials pertaining to history and climate change removed from national parks under President Donald Trump’s order.

"Often referred to as 'America’s largest classroom,' national parks serve in that spirit by telling the stories both of those who write history and those who go unheard. The beauty of history is the unvarnished storytelling of a time gone by and the delivery of undeniable truths. The government’s stewardship of these park sites thus carries a responsibility to present history in full rather than in favored fragments," wrote U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley in her 63-page ruling.

"Unfortunately, the government has disregarded these principles. Under the guise of promoting American dignity, this administration seeks to share a limited history by ordering the removal of all signs, displays, and interpretive exhibits at national parks that do not align with its preferred narrative, thereby telling half-truths."

The order (attached below) in response to a request for a preliminary injunction pertains to interpretive materials that have been altered or removed from the National Park System since May 20, 2025, and also blocks the Interior Department from further censoring exhibits at park sites while litigation is pending. It also requires the administration to provide the court with an update on progress restoring the censored information within five days and once each week thereafter. "
