"New York Reduces Lead Level Allowed in School Drinking Water"

"New York State will strengthen its lead poisoning prevention law, reducing the amount allowed in drinking water at public schools and increasing testing frequency, under legislation signed Thursday by Gov. Kathy Hochul (D).

The measure (A.160B/S.2122A) reduces the action level for public school drinking water to 5 parts per billion, down from 15 parts per billion, and requires testing every three years instead of every five, according to the bill.

New York is now the largest state with the most stringent health standard in the nation, according to a state League of Conservative Voters analysis."
