National Park Service Removes Pride Flag From Stonewall After Trump Order

"GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan — A Pride flag has been removed from New York’s historic Stonewall National Monument in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, following a memorandum issued by the federal National Park Service (NPS).

Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal confirmed that the flag was removed last week due to a federal order from the Trump administration on Jan. 21. Advocates and community members have planned a rally for Tuesday evening to condemn the flag’s removal.

“They cannot erase our history,” Hoylman-Sigal wrote in a social media post. “Our Pride flag will be raised again.”

The Pride flag stood at the site of Stonewall National Monument, a location that commemorates the 1969 riots that launched the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. The multicolored flag is one of the world’s most well-known emblems of LGBTQ+ rights."
