Illinois Bill Restricting Ethylene Oxide Heads To Governor's Desk

"Legislation tightening restrictions for use of the cancer-causing chemical ethylene oxide passed through both the Illinois Senate and House this week, and is being sent to Gov. J.B. Pritzker for approval.

State Sen. Melinda Bush, D-Grayslake, a sponsor of both bills that were approved, said that the governor supports the legislation and is expected to sign it into law. The House passed the legislation Friday, following approval by the Senate Thursday.

The legislation consists of new bills that would directly impact Medline Industries in Waukegan and Vantage Specialty Chemicals in Gurnee, two businesses whose emission of ethylene oxide, also known as EtO, has raised controversy and concern in Lake County, Bush said."
