"Electricity: Warming Could Drop Grid 'Reliability' 16% — Study"

"Climate change will test the world's energy systems and must be factored into their future design, according to a new study that considered over a dozen scenarios to understand the limitations of integrating renewable energy because of warming.

The paper yesterday in Nature Energy reported that extreme climate events could lead to a nearly 16% drop in power supply reliability, with such a "significant increase" in the loss of load probability causing more blackouts.

The international group of scientists examined how low-impact and extreme events would affect 30 Swedish cities and said renewable energy could rise above 30% for the majority of those cities if the impacts of climate change are properly accounted for."
