"At COP30, Brazilian Meat Giant JBS Recommends Climate Policy"

"The world’s biggest meat company, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, is leading food-company efforts to engage in climate talks."

"In Washington, D.C. in late October, Jason Weller, the global chief sustainability officer for JBS, kicked off a forum called “U.S. Agriculture and Food Systems on the Global Stage.”

At the podium, Weller described how the world’s largest meat company has been spearheading efforts alongside other food giants to bring “a private sector voice” to COP30, the year’s most important international climate conference.

“For the first time, private industry is being recognized for its engagement, its leadership,” he said, laying out the company’s steering of a “food systems working group” that is set to offer recommendations to delegates this week.

That working group is one piece of JBS and the broader food industry’s plan to influence negotiations at the United Nations’ annual COP (conference of the parties), where world leaders meet to hammer out commitments to reduce emissions and tackle climate change."
