"Bipartisan Lands Bill Might Get Political, Thanks To Trump"

"Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) says President Trump supports amending a sweeping public lands package to allow Gulf Coast states to receive more revenue from offshore oil and gas leasing, a move that critics say incentivizes states to allow drilling.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are quietly discussing whether to use the same conservation bill as an opportunity to consider new restrictions on U.S. Parks Police after confrontations with protesters outside the White House.

In the days ahead, lawmakers in both parties will have to decide how much politics they are willing to inject into a debate on a bill that has been touted until this point as a true bipartisan effort."
