In an era of rising misinformation, shrinking local newsrooms and journalist burnout, solutions reporting techniques offer a path forward that builds trust in local communities, and centers care, accountability and lasting change.

Join SEJ and the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN) for a practical, forward-looking workshop on integrating solutions journalism into your climate coverage to strengthen trust and engagement with the communities you serve. This 90-minute training invites you to learn about the vital role of solutions journalism in climate coverage. The event will be part lecture, part workshop, with hands-on practice to put your new tools to work right away.

The training is led by Yessenia Funes, an environmental journalist who has covered the justice beat for a decade and writes SEJournal’s Voices of Environmental Justice column. Yessenia also publishes the creative climate newsletter Possibilities, with bylines in Atmos, Vogue, Vox, New York Magazine and The Guardian. Her reporting spans the West Bank, Indigenous communities in Nicaragua, the American Southwest and post–Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico.

Read her latest SEJournal piece, “Climate Solutions, for Some, May Not Be,” for a dive into the community-responsive reporting this session will explore.

We’ll also preview SEJ’s new solutions reporting program with funding for members interested in the deeper training and the opportunity to pursue a solutions project in a community of practice. If you want to learn more, register now to join this session live or to receive the recording with more details!

A recording of the workshop will be emailed to registrants.
