Building Climate Reporting Confidence: The South

Event Date:
March 25, 2021

Want to boost your climate confidence but unsure where to start?

Covering Climate Now and Climate Matters in the Newsroom are here to help with an interactive webinar on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 1:30-3:00pm Central/2:30-4:00pm Eastern. For those who are relatively new to the climate story, we’ll provide resources and story ideas, an intro to climate science, and an opportunity to talk shop with reporters from the area.

Climate change affects us all, but in many ways it's personal: How the climate crisis will play out in one region is different from how it will play out in others, based on geographic, political, and cultural factors. In this webinar, we want to frame the conversation around the issues that matter most in the southern gulf states: intensifying hurricanes, more flooding downpours extreme heat, energy production, environmental racism in and outside of cities, health impacts related to climate and fossil fuels, and much more.

Our panel of experienced journalists will share their testimony on how they got up to speed on the climate issue, challenges they've faced in reporting and ideas on how to tell localized, human-centered stories that will engage audiences. We’ll flag common mistakes and best practices to emulate. And there will be plenty of time for Q&A.

We hope you'll join us for this 90-minute session to help get you up to speed on all things climate.
