Meet SEJ member Michele Bigley! Michele is a two-time Lowell Thomas award-winning journalist who has danced on six continents. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Conde Nast Traveler, Hidden Compass, Hothouse, Outside, Wired, Afar, Los Angeles Times, Brides, CNN, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, Yes!, Tiferet Journal, Via, Smart Set, Mutha magazine, dozens of inflight magazines and many more. Michele writes a climate-solutions-for-busy-parents newsletter, "Our Feet on the Ground," and leads Parenting in the Anthropocene writing salons and climate-inspired book conversations in California. When not traveling, she teaches writing classes at University of California, Santa Cruz. Her writing courses focus on the intersection of place and climate solutions. Over the years, Michele's former students at University of California, Los Angeles Writer's Program, California State University Monterey Bay, University of San Francisco, Foothill College, City College of San Francisco, Cañada College, Cabrillo College and at a tiny continuation high school in Los Angeles inspired in her a love for the hard and occasionally messy work of opening minds. Above all her accolades as a writer and teacher, she's most proud of her identity as a mother. Her two sons, Kai and Nikko, remind Michele every day that making the world a better place is the only work worth pursuing.

When asked if she would recommend SEJ membership to her colleagues, Michele said, "Yes, because of the mentorship program, the vast opportunities and the incredibly supportive community." Join Michele at SEJ today!
