Looking Ahead at Bush Appointees

September 12, 2001

President Bush is still drafting the team that will shape the country's policy over the next 3+ years. More than half of his 500 appointed positions have yet to be nominated or confirmed. Environment-related positions still up in the air include directorships and other positions in the Interior, Agriculture, Transportation, and Energy departments, as well as the executive branch.

The Brookings Institution is tracking developments and has an extensive spreadsheet documenting each position: SurveyPaul Light, 202-797-6047.

Also, on Sept. 6, 2001, Brookings released a report on campaign contributions made in the 1992 and 2000 election cycles by future appointees. In the Bush campaign, Christine Whitman was one of the top contributors among appointees, donating $28,850.
