DOE Releases Nuke-Building Environmental Impact Statement

October 29, 2008

In the waning months of the Bush administration, the push for nuclear energy continues. On Oct. 17, 2008, the Dept. of Energy released a draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for a range of nuclear fuel technologies that it is considering. DoE says it doesn't yet have a preferred alternative.

A 60-day public comment period began Oct. 17, and 13 meetings are scheduled around the country from Nov. 17 to Dec. 9. Many of the meetings are in or near areas with nuclear facilities.
