"We know there are endless appeals flooding your inbox, but the elemental needs of humans and other living things, and the Earth systems we depend upon, rely on strengthening the quality, reach and viability of journalism across all media, every day, to advance the public’s understanding of environmental issues."

— Meera Subramanian, Society of Environmental Journalists Board President

December 30, 2019 — There is no more important time to support robust environmental journalism than now. And there’s no better way than by contributing to the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ), the world's largest organization of environmental journalists, with membership now at an all-time high. You can be a part of it.

I’m Meera Subramanian, newly elected president of SEJ, an organization I credit with building my foundation as a freelance journalist, as it has supported journalists and journalism for thirty years. Your donation, today, can broaden the reach of SEJ’s Fund for Environmental Journalism, which helps journalists cover a rotating series of critical environmental topics, from safe water to public lands. Your donation produces the SEJournal and fact-packed TipSheets to educate journalists and the public. Your donation, now, maintains a free press through the unflagging work of our Freedom of Information Task Force. Your support brings to life our flagship annual conference, which gathers hundreds of journalists together to exchange information with each other, learn from star panelists and explore local landscapes. In the survey from our latest conference in Ft. Collins, 99% of respondents said they’d recommend the SEJ conference to their colleagues.

You can help make this happen. We know there are endless appeals flooding your inbox, but the elemental needs of humans and other living things, and the Earth systems we depend upon, rely on strengthening the quality, reach and viability of journalism across all media, every day, to advance the public’s understanding of environmental issues.

Give what you can. Give generously.

Be a part of SEJ.

Thank you,

Meera Subramanian
Society of Environmental Journalists Board President
Journalist, Author, Princeton University Barron Visiting Professor in the Environment & the Humanities
