"The U.S. will put together a $12 billion minerals stockpile, President Trump announced in the Oval Office on Monday.
The stockpile is expected to involve rare earth elements, other minerals that the government considers “critical” and additional materials whose prices may fluctuate.
The project is set to include a $10 billion loan from the Export-Import Bank of the United States and nearly $2 billion in private funds.
While specific uses vary, these minerals can be used in various technologies ranging from electronics to weapons to renewable power."
