About this Event
It’s past time we transform the way we tell stories about science, the environment, and our changing planet. That starts with bringing new voices into this historically white-dominated field of journalism – especially now, as underrepresented communities bear the brunt of the climate crisis.

Join us as we talk about the need for more journalists of color in environmental reporting. After a discussion with Julian Brave NoiseCat, an award-winning journalist and vice president at the think tank Data for Progress, moderated by Yessenia Funes of Atmos, we will reveal plans for an initiative aimed at fostering new voices in the field. The event is hosted in part by Grist, a nonprofit, independent media organization dedicated to telling stories of climate solutions and a just future. The event is open to anyone, whether you’re an established reporter, a student, or simply curious about environmental reporting. We’ll also offer information about future opportunities to get involved with projects aimed at diversifying the field..

One thing is clear: The old narratives in environmental journalism have failed us. It’s time we uproot them, and begin to sow the seeds for new stories that do all communities justice.
