Reducing Risk, Avoiding Disaster – Creating Grid 2.0

Event Date:
March 4, 2021

LIVE Briefing for Journalists

While journalists continue their coverage of the collapse of the electric grid in Texas, it’s important to also remember that this sort of thing is no longer an unusual event. Whether triggered by wildfires in California, flooding in the Midwest or a software bug in the northeast, continuing generation and distribution problems make it clear that energy delivery in the US needs a resilience makeover. So how do we make energy more reliable and secure?

Join some of the nation’s leading energy experts and thinkers as we consider what Grid 2.0 should look like. We’ll offer a quick tutorial on electric grids, discuss why they are failing with some regularity, and dive into how to improve energy reliability and security. And we’ll talk about story ideas you can use to cover these issues in your community. Plus, there will be plenty of time for your questions.

Speakers:

  • Melissa Lott, Senior Research Scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University
  • Jigar Shah, founder of SunEdison, the world’s largest solar services company, and co-founder of Generate Capital
  • Emily Chasan, former Sustainable Finance Editor for Bloomberg, Communications Director for Generate Capital
